Pusat Konservasi Bukit Paloh. Terengganu a Terrapin Conservation Centre at Bukit Paloh located on the bank of the Terengganu river are under the Department of Wildlife and National Parks. ( Jabatan PERHILITAN). are located about 13 kilometer from the Kuala Berang Town Here tourist and the public can find that the River Terrapin ((Batagur baska is a species of riverine turtle) species are breed here.
As a conservation program to save the The Terrapin
eggs from eaten by the local the center here also buy off their egg which are obtained from a licensed dealer on every laying eggs season. Here they are naturally incubated in sandy areas that are in the vicinity of
the center. The incubation period for Terrapin eggs are between 75 to 100
days.
There
are eight Terrapin breeding ponds which can be found here, where each pond maintain Terrapin
breeding program according to their ages ranging from hatching day old to adult
age. Terrapin parent are reared in separate ponds.
Some
1,300 eggs are collected from three conservation sites between January
and April every year. The center keeps about 1,350 animals at any one
time and release an average of 600 each year. Since the programme
started, about 10,000 young river terrapins have been successfully
released into the Terengganu River. To date, there are 1037 Terrapin tail were preserved here at the center.
