Mok
Ngoh is the lady who presides over the place, seated perched on a
platform, facing pots and pans containing her nasi dagang, curry,
pickled cucumber, etc.
She prepares every serving herself, scooping the nasi dagang onto the banana leaf and twisting a piece of curry ikan tongkol (mackerel?) before handing it over to the waiter.
There is a large hole in the wall that serves as the take-away window, which can get a bit crowded at times.
The place opens only for breakfast, but it is best to be there early and dine with the local folks.
Her nasi dagang is good, with a great all round taste. It is a simple meal that is filling, but beware it could make you feel sleepy if you take too much.
Her curry is good, too, and I would suggest flooding the rice with it. For extra bite, eat your dish with the pickled chili padi, which is on every table.
Her place is located at a two-door two-storey shophouse, which you would notice on the left side of Rt 3 or Jalan Batu Burok heading south. It is between 8 and 10 minutes from Kuala Terengganu town, just after the bridge getting into Cendering. Drive past the traffic light for the right turn that leads to Nur Arfah batik showroom.
It is not difficult to spot the many cars parked by the side of the road. The shophouse is pink, with pots of frangipani outside. If you miss it there is another nasi dagang shop a few minutes away, but it is worth the effort to make a U-turn.
There is a couple selling freshly fried keropok lekor that you can have as appertiser while waiting for your nasi dagang.
