TOURIST EVALUATION ON THE FOOD EXPERIENCE IN TOURISM IN TERENGGANU

ABSTRACT

Each  category  of  tourism  could  comprise  various  products  as  attractions.  The  attraction  could  be  based  on natural/environment, cultural/heritage or specific component such as food. Local food or cuisines that are unique to an area are one of the distinctive resources that may be used as marketing tools to get more visitors. Thus, this  study  was  segmentation  to  identify  the  level  of  expectations  of  tourists  in  Terengganu  of  food  tourism products  and  to  measure  the  level  of  travel  experience  acquired  through  their  early  expectations.

 This  study applied the concept of HOLSAT (Holiday Satisfaction) (Tribe & Snaith, 1998) and described the findings based on a significant level (t-test) on the three aspects of tourist activities, food and tourist attractions. The survey of 400 domestic  and  international  tourists  in  the  state  found  that  there  is  a  difference  between  the  level  of  initial expectations  and  actual  experiences  of  visitors  of  food  product.  This  paper  also  suggests  new  strategies  to enhance the delivery system of food tourism products in Terengganu. This study is very important in the driving directions  to  improve  the  weaknesses  and  lack  of  support  that  may  exist  in  the  food  tourism  sector  in Terengganu, it is to encourage more tourists to continue visiting this destination.
