Hutan Lipur Sekayu.

Hutan Lipur Sekayu or Recreational Forest of Sekayu coordinated N04° 57.85' E102° 56.71' are just 1 hour drive from Kuala Terengganu which is located in the Forest Reserve of Hulu Terengganu Tambahan. Which is 15 Km from Kuala Berang.

The place is blessed with many nature wonder with abundant of flora and fauna .The Recreational Forest of Sekayu is one of the most famous recreational forest in Terengganu and a favourite visitor retreat from the dusk and long hour work.

The reason why Sekayu is very famous is because of its many unique treasure of such as its waterfall; a large and beautiful vertical fall with seven cascades water fall that had three different sloped level. Making this place a is very beautiful and charming for frolicking in its cool water while hearing the sound of the gentle water rushing down the slope.

Many people including me claims that the river here is the most crystal clear in whole Terengganu as you can clearly see your foot even though you are standing almost 1 meter in the water
The crystal clear and cold water that flow from the Sekayu and Tersat river and the beauty of the mother nature all around its will conjure a sense of peace and tranquillity making Hutan Lipur Sekayu is very suitable place for resting your mind, body, soul and also bringing your family for a picnic here and to take part in the many Recreational activities that can be found here.

Beside the river and the waterfall ,Hutan Lipur Sekayu are famous with its green tropical rain forest which is rich with many nature treasure of flora and fauna that are well protected and guarded. There are many kind of tree and plant species that can be found here including those which have high medicine properties and value and all can be easily to be found here.

All the tree and plant here are well marked with signage and brief description which are easy to see. The wild life service here also provide an area where visitor can see the many herb product and herb species on display in the open hall.In the Hutan Lipur visitor will also find the largest Collection of Herb in Malaysia at an arboretum of herb and forest fruit and rare traditional fruit at the Taman Pertanian Negeri.

The Recreational Forest also have a large area that are suitable for family picnicking and outing activities all over along the sekayu river with many changing room and washroom and a lot camping area around Sekayu complete with a fire place to cook and boon fire ,with electric and clean water supply .There are many thing that can be see here from the many fruit and food seller and shop that can be found just out side of the main gate till the exhibition hall of the flora and fauna at the forestry department. here to the many beautiful wonder that mother nature have to offer to those who seeks her.

Visitor can relax their day and enjoy walking along the many the recreational ground and to the Taman Pertanian Negeri which is just inside the Hutan Lipur. Here at the Taman Pertanian, you will see the Flower park. the orchid Park, fruit orchard, garden, bird park, and a mini zoo at Sekayu where you can see some of the animal that be found here are the monkey, beaver ,Malaysia sun bear and other . Visitor can also find many public amenities that can be found here like large car park changing room, resting hut and also the Taman Pertanian Negeri

Visitor can also walks along the forest trail that are prepared by the department to see the assortment of plant and wild life at the nearby forest or go for a walk along Hutan Lipur area like following the flow of the river till up to the suspension bridge which span across the river.Belive me crossing it can be quite fun for first timer especially when a group of naugty children running around on the bridge, making the bridge rocking slightly. Still it is quit rewarding as here you can enjoy to capture with your camera of the surrounding gree forest while capturing the beauty of Sekayu’s crstal clear water that flow calmly with the river.

If You planning to go here don’t forget to spend some time at the Taman Pertanian Sekayu, which is in the heart of the Recreational Forest. This agrotourism garden is the third largest
In Malaysia and the most famous in the whole East Peninsular Coast of Malaysia.

For those who cannot get enough of the Sekayu forest and the waterfall ,visitor can rent the many state own chalets that cab be found here for an overnight stay which are available here and also in the Taman Pertanian Negeri. While those who are adventures sort can be close with nature by choosing to camp here at the large camping site that can be find here till the Taman Pertanian Negeri.






Getting Here:
Located 16km from Pekan (town) Kuala Berang trough the Jalanraya Kuala Berang-Sekayu,56 Km from Bandar Kuala Terengganu to Bukit Payong,and then from there to Wakaf Tapai,To Ajil*

Instruction :

From the main road (nr 14) from Bandar Kuala Terengganu to Bukit Payong,and then from there to Wakaf Tapai,To Ajil* and last you take the road to Kuala Berang. Turn left, just before reaching this village. Clear signposting. After about 15 km you will reach Hutan Lipur Sekayu

Visitor can use they own transportation or public transportation like airplane,
bas or taxi from KL to Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Berang before departing to The Recreational Forest of Sekayu.

Note:
*at Ajil you will find the largest pheasant park in the East Coast Penisular of Malaysia which just beside the Main Ajil road all you need to notice is the Large Signboard Saying Welcome to Taman Kuang Ajil so stopping will be quite an interesting place.


Tips :

Sekayu is also famous as the largest producer of Buah Salak in the state.(see the thorny salak plant that are planted at both side near the main Gate to the park.) The Salak fruit is cover in scaly skins like snake scale and a dark yellow seed as big as your thumb, the fruit grown near the sterm of these thorny palma plant. its fruit that are ripen will taste very delicious while those that are too dry or not quite ripe will taste very badly like vile of Sour crop that had been left for ages.

It is best that you buy a little amount to taste first as a lot of the trader here will claim that their Salak are ripen but actually wasn’t.
